ATTLEBORO — A man state police arrested in May, allegedly with about 1,000 oxycodone pills on Holman Street, was one of the reputed leaders of the notorious Boston gang the Columbia Point Dawgs.

Tony L. Berry, 35, who has a listed address in Boston, Attleboro and College Park, Ga., is now in federal custody without bail following a hearing earlier this week in U.S. District Court in Boston.

Berry, also known as “Mazibrawl,” was arraigned in Attleboro District Court in May on drug trafficking charges stemming from the state police and city police arrest and released after posting $50,000 cash bail.

But those charges were dropped after federal authorities rounded up 48 gang members June 18 and announced six separate indictments after a two-year probe dubbed “Operation Rising Tide.”

Berry, who is charged with conspiracy to possess and distribute heroin, cocaine and oxycodone, was arrested in Georgia, according to federal court records.

The investigation netted 31 guns, over $1.5 million in cash, a kilo of heroin, 200 grams of cocaine, 100 grams of crack cocaine and 15 high-priced cars in sweeps in and around Boston, according to U.S. Attorney Carmen Ortiz’s office.

During the investigation, Berry and other alleged gang members were seen driving different Maseratis as well as wearing expensive jewelry, designer clothing and spending freely in clubs, according to an FBI affidavit.

Berry is accused of traveling frequently from Georgia to Boston and then to New York to pick up loads of oxycodone pills and bring them back to Boston for distribution by others, according to the affidavit.

The court document mentions the Attleboro arrest alleging that he was on one of those trips when he was arrested with 1,688 oxycodone pills. At the time, authorities say they were acting on a tip and followed Berry.

He also allegedly bought high-caliber weapons in Georgia and has posted photographs of himself holding the weapons on social media and using his street name, according to the affidavit.

Berry and his brother, Willie Berry, who was also indicted, allegedly used the family home in Dorchester as their hub as well as for 8 Bus Records, a record label they owned to promote rap artists, according to the affidavit.

Tony Berry also owns property which federal authorities are eying for seizure.

When reached today, his lawyer Michael Doolin of Dorchester, declined to comment on the federal indictment.

After Berry’s arrest in May, Doolin described his client as working in real estate in Georgia where he had moved with his family three years ago.
