I’m working on a new service to help people manage their crypto hardware wallet backups. If you’d have some time to spare I’d greatly appreciate if you could take a look and share your feedback.

2 Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / 2-minute “hardware wallet backups – safety vs. security” survey on: April 18, 2019, 06:16:20 PM

I’m working on a new service and trying to understand how people manage their crypto hardware wallet backups today. If you’d have 2 minutes to spare I’d greatly appreciate if you could take the anonymous survey below.

Specifically, I’m trying to get some insight into what is the reasonable balance between safety and security for crypto owners when managing their recovery seed and passphrase backups.

For example, the most obvious and arguably most “secure” is storing your passphrase backup in your head. However, this maybe isn’t that “safe” in case of forgetting your passphrase due to the passage of time, disease or an accident. And certainly, it’s not “safe” at all for inheritance purposes as your passphrase is going to the grave with you, leaving your Next-of-Kin with nothing Sad

There’s not much I could offer back except good karma and sharing the survey results. But I can promise that your feedback will help me develop a better service that will benefit you and the broader crypto community.

Thanks in advance Smiley

PS: If you are interested in the service I’m building, drop me a message. I’ll be happy to share more details and also give you the premium features for free (once built and finished)

PS2: Below in comments, I’ll share how I protected my own hardware wallet backups for your inspiration. Hopefully, you’ll find this strategy beneficial when keeping your backups safe and/or help me make it even better! I’ll be happy to answer anything.

4 Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Protecting hardware wallet backups. Please help. on: April 12, 2019, 04:18:27 PM

I’m building a website to help with recovery seed management and also with inheritance planning.
I’d like to use it to protect my recovery seed backups and also offer it to others if they like it.

The idea is never to ask users for their recovery seeds – it is always in the user’s hands and offline.

Users just schedule reminders to check their backups regularly and thus protect themselves from forgetting the backups due to the passage of time, disease or accident.

Optionally, users also might create a recovery/inheritance plan so their close ones can access user’s assets in case of an accident or death. This works similarly as Google Inactive Account Manager but its more customized for cryptocurrencies.

Again, the recovery seed stays completely offline all the time. The only thing which might be uploaded online (depending on the user’s decision) is a passphrase (in plain or even encrypted form).

Already implemented features are here:
https://seedcret.com/demo/

Features we are currently building listed here:

Would you share your thoughts on this?
Is there anything you are missing, is not clear enough or you would make it a better way?

6 Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Address/balance monitor app with email alert on change on: March 24, 2019, 08:05:54 AM

Is there any app, ideally with API, which works as below?

1. users provide what coin they want to monitor (e.g., bitcoin, neo, IOST or any other coin)
2. users provide their wallet address (e.g., 1Nd7A2WctEugtbx7xr6xaoUtGxXr5EvMM4)
3. app is monitoring the address and will send an email alert to the user in case of balance change

How could this be implemented in the best way?
Just by scrapping balances from blockchain explorer websites or would you suggest another, better approach?

7 Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Hardware wallet portfolio tracker – all coins/tokens (using XPUB ?) on: January 26, 2019, 05:13:10 PM

I have a hardware wallet (e.g. Trezor or Ledger) and I need some quick and simple way to get complete list of all coins/tokens (e.g. 5 NEO, 14343 XRP, 31 CARDANO, . ) and their balances stored on the hardware wallet.

I thought there should be already some portfolio tracker app using XPUB key for this but can’t find such app so far .

Also I read that with XPUB it is possible to track just some coins like Bitcoin and similar, but it is not possible to track ALL different coins/tokens on the hardware wallet.

Can you please advise if there is an app for this?

Or if not how would you handle this?

9 Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Multisig for multiple receiver addresses and different coins/tokens on: January 21, 2019, 06:18:01 PM

Just would like to ask two questions.

Question 1
Is it possible to implement multisig to send different bitcoin amounts on multiple bitcoin receiver addresses at once in a single transaction?

E.g. 5 people create a transaction (actually 5 transactions in 1) to send different bitcoin amounts from a hardware wallet address to 5 different addresses (each person has its own address) within a single multisig.

Question 2
Is it possible to implement multisig for every currency (e.g. neo, ripple, monero, . ) or it works just for bitcoin?
