Help Me Pick A Grape Strain

Kalikush

Well, I’ve decided to grow a grape strain and after many hours of research and even more reflection, I still do not know which strain I should try. It has to be from seed because I don’t know anyone with a grape strain and I don’t want to waste time with a ‘grape’ clone from a dispensary. I don’t mind spending the money for something like DJ Short stock. I would prefer a sativa leaning hybrid but most grapes seem to be indica leaning and that is fine too but it must be purple.

I grew DJ Shorts Grape Krush once but had to chop it early due to some PM. I only had one plant (in my avatar) but she didn’t smell like grapes yet. I smoked Game Changer recently and although sweet, it wasn’t grapes. I had Grape Ape and GDP a few times and some were sweet, some just dank, but none grapes.

My research, from many years ago to present, has turned up some of BOGs genetics. I remember his Bogglegum having a Big League Chew grape smelling/flavored pheno in the mix but I’m not sure if those phenos are still in the seed packs. He seems to have created Grape Punch and then Sour Grape from that Bogglegum grape pheno but I didn’t see a ton on Grape Punch other than it being ‘ok’ and BOG says that Sour Grape will smell like a fine red wine after a good cure, which is not what I’m looking for. I’ve read Lifesaver has some grape flavor too.

I’ve seen several grape strains from TGA but after more research, his strains seem to be majorly lacking in the potency department. I’m not looking for the strongest strain out there but I don’t want something that is not potent.

Wow, that was a mouthful! Can anyone help me out? I have to go vape some Blue Dream now lol

Horticulturists lead by David Cain crossed a Concord style grape and a common grape not unlike those found in the produce section of your local supermarket. The result was an intensely sweet large green grape that tastes like cotton candy.

Cotton Candy Grapes

What are Cotton Candy Grapes ?

A fairly new breed of green grape that tastes like cotton candy. No it’s not a GMO or genetically engineered it is simply the product of some rigorous good old fashioned plant breeding. International Fruit Genetics in Bakersfield, California, a private company is responsible for this novel addition to the worlds reservoire of grapes.

Horticulturists lead by David Cain crossed a Concord style grape and a common grape not unlike those found in the produce section of your local supermarket. The result was an intensely sweet large green grape that tastes like cotton candy.

Seedless grapes, which is what Cain and his colleagues at International Fruit Genetics used, can’t reproduce naturally so horticulturalists had to remove the grapes embryos from the plants and transfer them to test tubes. They were grown in the tubes and later planted in a field.

International Fruit Genetics researchers are also breeding hybrid grapes that taste like other fruits, mango, strawberry, pineapple and so forth, but don’t expect any immediate results “The whole process takes at least six years and sometimes up to 15 years” as per Cain.

The distributor of these grapes “The Grapery” also peddles similar products such as Flavor Promise, gumm drops and Flavor Pops grapes.

Finding Cotton Candy Grape Vines to Plant

If you’d like to try growing these grapes yourself, well good luck finding some for sale. You might be fortunate enough to get your hands on some cuttings. As per the patent holder, the grapery, “It’s always great to know that our efforts are appreciated, and we thank you for your interest. However, our unique vines [Cotton Candy] are patented and unavailable for sale or licensing.”

It is possible to grow grapevines from the stems of supermarket grapes, I didn’t say it was easy, just possible. If you locate a retailer selling these grapes be sure to select a bunch with the heftiest and healthiest looking vine possible, and expect a high failure rate.
