Cannabis Seeds by Genetics

  • Sativa Seeds: Tall plants with sharp leaves and long branches of relatively thin-stemmed cannabis. Sativa plants vigorously grow up in height, and can reach over 15 feet tall. Originates from sub-tropical and tropical climates: Africa, South-East Asia, South & Central America, etc. Plants have a natural long flowering cycle, often over 10 weeks. Sativa handles well outdoors against molds and diseases. High THC and THCV content. People who enjoy a stimulating ‘head high’ effect prefer sativa cannabis. Read – Top 25 Best Sativa Seeds
  • Indica Seeds: Short plants with fat leaves, thick stems, and a stocky structure. Indica grows like a bush, and can produce a large amount of weed in a small area. Originates from temperate climates: Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Nepal, Morocco, etc. Traditionally used to make hash, indica cannabis is dank and sticky. A great palate of candy flavors is present in indica genetics. Not very mold resistant. Indica plants flower quickly and require a low-hum >Top 25 Best Indica Seeds

  • *Autoflowering Seeds: Non-photoperiod plants, can be either feminized or regular. Autoflowering varities are made with c. ruderalis genetics, and will flower under any amount of light, including 24 hours/day. Plants grow short and finish their life-cycle quickly, often in under 60 days from seed. These plants benefit from long light hours per day to produce a decent harvest weight, and can be placed together closely, such as in a SoG or SCROG cultivation method. cannabis seed starting

Cannabis seed starting
As young seedlings grow quite quickly, you will need to keep adjusting lights to get the best results. After two weeks under fluorescent lights, you will be able to switch to high-powered HPS or MH-style grow lights.

The complete guide to germinating cannabis seeds

Before you can be met with bountiful hauls of dank buds, there are several stages of cannabis growing that take precedence. Unless you can successfully germinate cannabis seeds, you won’t have a plant to harvest. Give your seeds the best possible start in life by reading our definitive guide to germination.

THE ART OF GERMINATING CANNABIS SEEDS

Often overlooked, it is all too easy to assume that the vegetative and flowering stages of cannabis growth are the most critical parts of the plant’s life cycle. However, with the chance of failure high unless you know what you’re doing, poor planning when it comes to germination can make or break your next grow. Giving your cannabis seeds the best possible start on their journey to bulging buds is a surefire way to encourage a healthy and robust plant.

Small, fragile, and in desperate need of a helping hand, there are several ways you can germinate your cannabis seeds. All methods have varying degrees of success, with both advantages and disadvantages. It is important to note that even with advanced growing expertise and top-of-the-line equipment, you may still end up with a few failed seeds. This is a natural part of dealing with a living organism. At Royal Queen seeds, we only sell feminized cannabis seeds, so there is no need to worry about removing male plants.

WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR IN CANNABIS SEEDS

Regardless of where you get your seeds from, it is best to give them a slight (and delicate) inspection before planting. Most of the time, all seeds will germinate; however, poor-quality seeds will produce a weaker plant. Unfortunately, that is something you will not find out until well into the vegetative and flowering stages.

To avoid disappointment, seeds that have a darker colouration stand a better chance of germinating, while pale green or white seeds are likely to fail. Even if dark seeds look slightly damaged, they should be planted anyway. There is a good chance they will still germinate, even if the outer shell is somewhat crushed.

GERMINATION TEMPERATURE PLAYS A CRUCIAL ROLE

Before we jump straight into the germination methods, there are a couple of germination golden rules. For the best results, we recommend staying within these guidelines, no matter how you choose to germinate. That being said, of all the factors to consider, temperature is one of the most critical. Seeds will always seek out even the smallest amount of moisture, but they use temperature as a sign that they need to do so.

• The ideal temperature is between 22° and 25°C (71–77°F)
• Your growing environment should be damp/moist, but never wet
• Relative humidity range should be between 70% and 90%
• Seeds favour fluorescent lighting (Cool White code 33)
• Minimise the amount of seed handling you do
• In hydroponic/rockwool plugs, the ideal PH value is 5.8–6.2

WHAT IS AN EXPECTED GERMINATION TIME?

Three fundamental principles will trigger that first small taproot to appear: warmth, moisture, and darkness. With the promise of moisture, a single root will take shape before slowly developing into the cannabis plant we know and love. In the right conditions, seeds will begin to develop within 12–36 hours of moisture being introduced to them.

Timescales can vary, as it all depends on how ideal your germination environment is (see the golden rules above). Even the worst grower could make a seed germinate, but it may take a few weeks and, of course, increases the risk of a weaker plant.

CHOOSING YOUR GERMINATION METHOD

GLASS OF WATER APPROACH

Arguably one of the least effective methods, but it is still viable. Incredibly simple to facilitate, beginner growers may opt to germinate their seeds in a glass of water. Half-fill a glass or bowl with water that is approximately 22°C (71°F).

After 3–5 days, the seeds will start to open, and you should see tiny white tips appear. Once these roots reach 2–3mm in length, use extreme care to transfer them from the water to pre-prepared soil pots.

The soil pots will need small holes (roughly 10–15mm deep) for the newly germinated seeds to be placed into. Once the seeds are secure, you will want to place a fluorescent light 13–15cm (5–6 inches) away to encourage growth. Finally, don’t risk overwatering your seeds at this early stage. Use a plant mister to make sure they stay damp but not soaking wet.

WET KITCHEN TOWEL METHOD

Probably one of the most common methods of germination. The kitchen towel method comes in several iterations. Some growers use cotton wool pads or absorbent pieces of paper. For this guide, we will be using kitchen towel as it is readily available and holds moisture relatively well.

Place one sheet of damp kitchen towel on a flat surface. Space your seeds a few centimetres apart before placing the second piece of kitchen towel over the top. You need to ensure both pieces are damp, not wet. Once again, when the white root tips reach 2–3mm, move the seeds (carefully) to soil pots. Use the same guidance found above for planting techniques.

PLANTING DIRECTLY INTO SOIL

Planting directly into your growing medium prevents having to move seeds when they are at their most fragile. That first root tip is covered with microscopic filaments that are easily damaged. Given that both a cup full of water and moist paper towels are more prone to temperature fluctuations from their environment, planting in soil is a much safer option.

Start by filling pots with a premium-quality soil that has been soaked in water. Many growers also choose to lace the water with a root stimulator. Make a hole roughly 10–15mm deep. This will be your seed’s new home. Remove the seeds from their packet and place them into the pre-dug holes. Loosely cover the seeds, but be careful not to compress the soil above the seed too much. The root will struggle to penetrate solid soil, slowing plant growth. Lightly spray the top of where you placed the seed so that your growing medium stays moist.

If you don’t like the idea of pre-soaking your soil, you can use a spray to moisten the holes before you plant each seed. With enough moisture surrounding your seeds, you can still encourage a root to develop.

Your growing pots will need to be placed in a damp climate that is within the temperature range listed under our golden rules. After 4–10 days, you should see a young seedling sprout, while the roots will have begun to develop underneath the soil. The entire plant and its soil can now be transferred to a larger pot, where normal growing routines should start.

USING STONE WOOL BLOCKS

Maintaining the ideal temperature (between 22–25°C/71–77°F) and moisture for germination is tricky. Leaving seeds out in the open environment or on a windowsill is far from ideal; a DIY climate-controlled cupboard would do a much better service. A warming mat is perfect for maintaining a constant temperature, but it doesn’t tackle the issue of moisture.

You will need to invest in a few pieces of unique equipment, but by using stone wool blocks, you can create a perfect utopia for germinating cannabis seeds. Soak the stone wool blocks in the same way you would a soil medium. The wool will retain the moisture and prevent the need to water during the early stages of germination. After the wool blocks are soaked, stick them in a plastic tray that also has a lid. Large cake tubs are ideal.

The dome of the plastic container will create your seeds’ own mini tropical climate. If you then place all the components in a temperature-controlled cupboard, you will have created a self-perpetuating supply of moisture—no need to touch the seeds again until they are ready to be transferred to your final growing medium as a young seedling. Using the stone wool block method, your seeds should germinate in one to two days.

Two or three weeks after germination, your young seedlings should be ready for their new home. At this point you have two options; transplanting them into soil pots, or taking on the challenge of hydroponics. You’ll know when the seedlings are ready to be moved because the root system should start to poke out of the bottom of the wool blocks. As long as the roots haven’t begun to engulf the bottom half of the wool block, they will seek out water and nutrients in their new surroundings and continue to grow downwards.

ROYAL QUEEN SEEDS FEMINIZED STARTER KIT

There is, of course, a far simpler way to germinate seeds. Ideal for beginners, the feminized starter kit by Royal Queen Seeds has everything you need to kick-start your next cannabis project.

The Royal Queen Seeds Feminized Starter Kit contains:

  • 3x RQS Critical feminized seeds
  • 20x Easy-Start seedling pots
  • 1x Propagator Pro
  • 1x pack of Bacto
  • 1x perlite
  • 1x fluorescent lights
  • 1x instruction manual
  • 4x AA batteries
  • 1x Royal Queen Seeds catalogue

*You will also need a measuring cup and a stirrer (not included in the kit).

1. Gently remove the foil from the back of the seed packet and place them carefully into a dry container. We will come back to them in a few steps time.

2. You will need a shallow container that is large enough to accommodate the seed tray. Fill the container with one litre of lukewarm water (22–25°C/71–77°F). Pour in the packet of Bacto enzyme, allowing it to dissolve before setting the seed tray into the container to soak. The seed tray only needs to be immersed for 5–10 seconds. Do not discard the Bacto mixture after the seed tray has been soaked.

3. After removing the seed tray from your shallow container, poke a 10–15mm deep hole into the soil of each pot, and delicately transfer your seeds from their dry container into each hole. Remember, one seed per pot.

4. Using the supplied propagator, sprinkle a 15mm-thick layer of perlite into the bottom of the water reservoir. Use the remaining Bacto mixture from step two to fill the water reservoir. You want the water to cover the bottom of the reservoir, but don’t completely submerge the perlite.

5. Place your seed tray into the propagator, adjust the walls, and position the lid. The lid comes with an on/off switch for the already-attached lights.

6. Check the water level in your reservoir once a day. Your aim is to maintain an even level. After 1–7 days, the seeds should have sprouted, with visible leaves appearing. Once the seedling is 3mm tall, transfer it to your final growing medium.

IF IN DOUBT, THINK SPRINGTIME CONDITIONS

No matter which method you choose, always think about what conditions would naturally be like in spring. In their natural environment, cannabis seeds would start to sprout in-line with the seasonal change from winter to spring. Moisture is still high, and temperatures will be naturally rising. Always ask yourself the question, “Does my germination setup replicate spring conditions”. If the answer is yes, there is a good chance germination will be a success.

GIVING YOUR SEEDS THE BEST POSSIBLE START IN LIFE

In most cases, germination will go off without a hitch. However, there are a few troubleshooting issues we can help with.

LIGHTING

The first is lighting. Your seed/young seedling will only need fluorescent or CFL grow lights, at least to begin with. While plants need light to thrive, too much of a good thing will damage cannabis in its first few weeks.

Position lights about 15cm from seeds. Once your seedling has developed its first proper leaves (they will have jagged edges), you can move the lights as close as 5cm. If you are concerned about damaging your seedling, place your hand between the leaves and your lights. If you cannot hold your hand in place for ten seconds without it being too hot, move the lights 2cm away. Repeat until you are comfortable with the temperature.

As young seedlings grow quite quickly, you will need to keep adjusting lights to get the best results. After two weeks under fluorescent lights, you will be able to switch to high-powered HPS or MH-style grow lights.

UPSIDE-DOWN SEEDS

Don’t panic, where possible roots will always grow downwards. It is not necessary to try and reposition the seed yourself. Disturbing the seed at this crucial time will do more damage than good. In most scenarios, what you are actually seeing is not a root protruding from the top of the seed, but the stem of a cannabis plant.

If you are ever unsure, always wait a few days for the first leaves (cotyledons) to appear. As long as a seed’s requirements have been met, the seedling should sort itself out. The best approach is not to panic; follow the golden rules and your young seedling will be ready to transfer to a larger pot in no time.

GERMINATION AND BEYOND

WHEN DO YOU START FEEDING?

It will depend on the growing medium you are using, but in most cases, you will not need to supply any nutrients for the first 2–3 weeks. There will be of plenty of nutrients available in the soil, and even coco will only need nutrients added after a week or so. If you do opt for coco or hydroponics, nutrients should be added at 0.25x their regular strength. Once the first set of leaves appear, increase this in increments of 0.25 per set of leaves. For beginners, we would always recommend using a soil medium. It allows you to get to know the intricacies of growing cannabis more efficiently, and can be the least punishing if you make mistakes.

An easy way to spot if more nutrients are needed is to observe the leaves. The serrated leaves will start to turn pale green as nutrient stores are depleted. Left long enough, leaves will eventually turn yellow. This is a definite sign that more nutrients are needed. Your plant will not die if the leaves turn yellow, but it is a timely reminder to feed your young seedling.

Nitrogen is the most commonly needed nutrient during periods of high growth. Once the seedling has been fed, the colour of the leaves will return to normal. Depending on how long you waited to take action, this can take a few hours or a whole day.

SIT BACK AND RELAX

The first few weeks of a seedling’s development require very little interference. Nutrients, as we have mentioned, will need minor tweaks, as will lighting. However, now that your seed has germinated, you have a few weeks of grace. Sit back, relax, and enjoy your cannabis plant taking shape.

Once those initial weeks have passed, you can treat your seedling like it is in the vegetative stage, and switch to strict lighting routines and full-intensity light. During germination, always remember the golden rules, and if in doubt, ask yourself if you have created “springtime conditions”. If you are confident everything is on track, all you need to do is observe and marvel at the creation of your very own cannabis plant.

Cannabis seed starting
Feminized- and regular cannabis varieties give growers the possibility do decide when the vegetation period ends, and the flowering period starts. This is why transplanting “feminized” seedlings is not such a big concern, in contrast to autoflowering strains. When a few days are lost due to stress recovery of the plant, growers simply increase the time-span of the vegetation period and compensates the loss of growth. Internet forums and grow reports can help to get you an idea what works best in terms of pot size(s) matching your setup.

Rookie Guide: 3 Steps to Master the Seedling Stage

Mastering the delicate seedling stage is crucial to grow strong and healthy cannabis plants. Read this blog for further information on how to cultivate cannabis from seed to seedling.

CONTAINER AND GROWING MEDIUM

Before germinating our cannabis seeds, we make up our mind about containers and soil, assuming most rookies prefer soil due to simplicity. At this point, we already need to differentiate between autoflowering – and feminized/regular seeds.

A. POTS FOR AUTOFLOWERING SEEDS

Growers of autoflowering varieties will get best results when they plant the seed directly into the final pot, and need to pay very close attention to seedlings for the first three weeks. Mistakes in the vegetation period of autoflowering strains have fatal consequences, meaning low yields. Depending on the strain and growing method, pot sizes ranging from 5-15 liter can be used. The size of the pot will have an influence on the size of your plants, on yields, and on the frequency you water your plants. Tip: Airpots allow more oxygen to get to the root system and will boost vitality and final yields.

B. POTS FOR FEMINIZED SEEDS

C. GROWING MEDIUM

High quality organic soil that is “light” when it comes to pre-added nutrition works best.

GERMINATION TECHNIQUES

There are basically two different techniques that are commonly used to germinate cannabis seeds.

A. THE WET PAPER TOWEL METHOD

Carefully place your cannabis seeds between wet paper towels and place them in a sealable plastic container. Aim for high humidity levels inside the container, temperatures between 20-25 °C, and moist, but not overly wet paper towels. Check moisture and humidity levels regularly. Don’t completely close the container and allow some air exchange. This happens at a dark place.

B. GERMINATING SEEDS IN WATER

Simply drop your seeds into a glass of drinking water and wait 24-48 hours until seeds have cracked. Wait until you see the first few millimeters of the root, and make sure water temperatures are between 20-25 °C. Place your cup somewhere light doesn’t reach it.

ENVIRONMENT: LIGHT, HUMIDITY AND WATERING

After seeds have germinated, it’s time to plant them into the pots. Plant the seeds just 3-5 millimeters below the surface of the earth, ideally with the tiny root facing downwards. This can help to avoid time-loss and seeds don’t have to figure out how gravity works.

A. LIGHT

It’s not necessary to use your powerful HPS or LED the first 10-14 days. CFL’s with a blue light spectrum (daylight/coolwhite) will get you very good results. Either built your own light fixture using T5/T8 sockets or buy 23-30W CFL’s with the standard European E27 lamp socket. Compare different bulbs and choose the ones with highest lumen output.

B. HUMIDITY

Aim for humidity levels of approximately 70%. Small propagators can be an option if you start in very small containers but autoflowering growers planting in final pots need to monitor, and eventually raise, the humidity inside the grow room.

C. WATERING

This is by far the most important part when growing seedlings, and cannabis in general. Don’t overwater your plants due to overly high levels of affection for your cannabis plant! The root system has no motivation to grow if it’s constantly flooded with water. You need to find your individual rhythm or cycle between wet and dry. This will come over time and your seedlings will thrive if you pay close attention to watering. Remember, less is sometimes more!

Auto Wembley is the feminised autoflowering version of Pyramid Seeds‘ Wembley, a surprisingly flavourful hybrid resulting from crossing the world-famous AK 47 with another cannabis classic, Bubble Gum.

For many, Wembley is by far the most fragrant and tasty plant in Pyramid’s seed catalogue, even in comparison to their Northern Lights and Shark selections, renowned for their strong smell. Auto Wembley combines the powerful, long-lasting high of AK47 with the fresh tropical fruit flavour of Bubble Gum in one fast-flowering package!

Auto Wembley is a medium sized plant with light green foliage and thick, dense and resinous pyramid-shaped buds. The orange pistils that show at the end of flowering make this plant a very attractive beauty.

Pyramid Seeds has created Auto Wembley to allow all lovers of the classical Wembley genetics to enjoy its qualities but in a much shorter flowering period. This plant flowers automatically and may be harvested from 45-56 days after germination, depending on conditions.

Great for growing in small spaces indoors, where a light cycle of 20/4 is recommended. For outdoor crops it is generally sown from mid-April for a late June harvest, but can also be planted until July/August in warmer areas.

Outdoors, we recommend planting it in 20 liter pots to ensure a large growth for a maximum yield.

Strawberry Banana is a cross of Crockett’s Banana Kush and a strawberry pheno we sourced from bubble gum seeds by Serious seeds. Bubblegum was such a frosty male that our homie the Guru knew he had to cross it with something special. Guru and Crockett got to work and created the Strawberry Banana! She has to be one of the greatest resin producers we have witnessed and expect to see good yields with the flowering time of around 9 weeks. Strawberry Banana is amazing for concentrate artists, winning awards at multiple cups around the world. She responds well to topping and does great in all systems. A medium to heavy feeder the Strawberry Banana can produce big yields! Expect connoisseur quality herb without having to be an expert grower! The beginner will shine as well as the seasoned grower.

Strawberry Banana is a predominantly Indica plant and relatively compact. It takes copes well with pruning and all growing methods, so medium-high nutrition programs.

Strawberry Banana

Strawberry Banana from Private Reserve is the first feminised strain from the DNA team in collaboration with the seed bank Serious Seeds .

The mother Banana Kush, the result of a cross between a Ghost Og clone and a male Skunk Haze created by Crockett, was crossed with a Strawberry Bubblegum clone phenotype from Serious Seeds, one that is also is very resinous and tasty.

Strawberry Banana is a predominantly Indica plant and relatively compact. It takes copes well with pruning and all growing methods, so medium-high nutrition programs.

It can yield 450-550 grams at 8-9 weeks of flowering, during which it forms an incredible amount of resin.

In fact, this abundant resin production and the quality of its terpenoid profile quickly changed the Strawberry Banana to a champion of trichomes extractions , although its presence in marijuana competitions is very recent.

The fruity fragrance will mix the banana and red berries into a sweet smoke, that lingers long in the mouth.

    TGA Subcools Plush Berry Description

Plushberry is the first TGA offering from the Kush family.

While this strain has a unique trait of Pink/Magenta Calyx this was not the motivating factor is the selection process, from the start it was all about taste and smell.

The Black Cherry Soda carried a strong Black Berry smell and taste and our goal with this new Kush Hybrid was to use this terpine profile combined with Space Queen to increase potency and resin content.

Tested under the name Pink Lady this new kush hybrid called Plush Berry has a very strong Blackberry smell and heavy resin coating.

The coloring trait is present in high numbers and adds to the over all bag appeal of the strain but its the smell and taste that is truly unique in the field of Cannabis.

One of a kind terpine profile.

Phenotypes: Two main varieties occur the smaller dreading pink phenotype is my favorite. The larger more Indica dominant phenotype is the heavy yielder

Height: Very tall when grown untopped from seed Clones topped tend to stay shorter

Yield: Medium yielding plant with lots of resin encrusted sugar leaf for hash making

Best Way to Grow: Top and train into a bush.
    Harvest Window: 55-65 days
    Sativa/Indica: 20/80
Hybrid: Black Cherry Soda X Space Queen

We received a cutting of “Pink Lady,” which we later came to find out is the beta version of Plush Berry Kush. This plant has a semi-Space Queen like structure, but with tight flowers and more girth than other SQ dom. phenos we have seen. It grew well, was healthy, and produced a good number of bud sites up high with good light exposure. Cooler night time temps gave us stunning color shifts from green to purple, crimson, and pink. When properly cured, the flowers smell and taste like the Black Cherry Soda from whence it cometh. A unique plant as far as the taste and colors go, this is an overall good strain in our experience. The hash was not as impressive as some other TGA offerings, but was still full melt and a joy to smoke. A keeper for sure.

PlushBerry from TGA Subcool is the first strain of the Kush family proposed by TGA.

    Plushberry – TGA Subcool

PlushBerry from TGA Subcool is the first strain of the Kush family proposed by TGA.

Although this plant has a very characteristic flowering showing pink and magenta hues, this was not the reason for its selection, but its taste and smell. Black Cherry Soda gives it a powerful blackberry aroma and flavor; TGA’s goal with this new Kush hybrid was to use this very characteristic variety of terpenes and combine it with Space Queen to give a more strong effect and a better production of trichomes.

Known as Pink Lady during the testing phase, this new Kush strain is now called PlushBerry; it has an outstanding intense blackberry flavor, and a thick layer of resin covering its flowers and leafs. The coloration is produced in most plants and gives the crop an attractive red touch, even though it is its aroma what makes this crossing unique. One of the best terpene profiles of the cannabis world.

Moreover, they are possessed with a lifelong lust to chew and gnaw just to wear down their teeth. Electrical wiring and cables are a favourite of 21st-century rodents and pose an unseen fire risk to indoor weed growers.

The Threat Rats & Mice Pose To Cannabis

Did you know that rats and mice are a serious threat to your cannabis crop? Even indoor weed growers are not immune to a nightmare infestation. Fear not, we’ve got the tricks and tactics you need to keep your marijuana garden rodent-free.

    THREAT ALERT: DANGEROUS RODENTS

Like it or not, wherever you live on planet Earth, with the exception of the rumoured “break away civilisation” sequestered in the Antarctic, rats and/or mice are dwelling within proximity of where you sleep and where you grow your cannabis.

    Rats and mice rodents

Of all the pests that can potentially infest your cannabis crop, be it indoors or outdoors, rodents are perhaps the most dangerous and difficult to deal with it. Infestation happens gradually, then suddenly!

Every cannabis cultivator needs to be aware of the real, not so clear, but ever present danger rats and mice pose to cannabis crops. Don’t be naive and assume the threat is limited to outdoor marijuana gardens and greenhouses.

Both rats and mice have protruding front teeth for a reason; they keep growing for their entire lifespan. They can easily munch their way into your home or squeeze through tiny holes and cracks in brickwork and timber.

Moreover, they are possessed with a lifelong lust to chew and gnaw just to wear down their teeth. Electrical wiring and cables are a favourite of 21st-century rodents and pose an unseen fire risk to indoor weed growers.

    KNOW YOUR ENEMY

Rattus rattus or more commonly known as the “true rat” is the common black rat with a tail longer than its body. This rat was the original “ship rat” and is an inasive species so it is present virtually all over the world. Plus it was the vector for plague-carrying ticks that caused the “Black Death”.

    Rats and mice facts

Rattus norvegicus or the Norway rat is the “brown rat” with a stubby tail and even more ill-tempered than the black rat. This species is also globally widespread.

Rats are pretty large for rodents and in some instances they can be huge. The average rat is about 45cm long, including the tail. Lab mice and pet mice differ only in that they are usually white, still 100% vermin.

Mice of all varieties and colours are generally lumped together into the Mus genus. Field mice, house mice, it’s all the same. The mouse is basically a micro-rat usually weighing no more than 500g and less than 10cm long.

Just like rats, they are also biological breeding machines and compulsive chewers. It’s mathematically possible for a breeding pair of mice or rats to turn into thousands within 12 months.

    PREVENTATIVE MEASURES: ZERO TOLERANCE

Indoor growers with even basic DIY skills can take a number of simple practical steps to rodent-proof their grow show. Start with a visual inspection of the exterior of your home and the surrounding area. What you’re looking for are possible entry points for rodents like cracks, holes and unprotected air vents.

Also keep an eye out for any kind of garbage or debris that might be enticing to rats and mice. You can’t undertake a single handed “Tidy Towns” initiative, but keep your environment as clean as you can to avoid attracting a pest problem.

“An ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure” – Benjamin Franklin

Some silicon sealant for cracks, a dab of cement here and there for holes and mesh grills to protect air vents should be enough to secure your premises and won’t cost you a fortune either. Apart from that, good housekeeping and proper waste disposal is really all that’s necessary to avert most pest infestations.

Outdoor cannabis cultivation by definition is more perilous. Climate and environmental conditions will be dictated by Mother Nature and the risk of both pests and pathogens increases exponentially.

Root rot, bud mold and spider mites are more publicised threats to cannabis crops, but outdoors the grower must also take extra measures to defend against all kinds of creatures great and small, rats and mice jostling for position as worst of the worst.

Guerrilla growers would be advised to clear away as much undergrowth as possible upon selection of a clandestine grow plot to discourage mice and rats nesting in the crop.

    Trails and passages

As well as looking out for game trails and farm animal’s, rural growers must be eagle-eyed when choosing a marijuana planting ground. Outdoor ganja farmers must carefully scan the terrain for evidence of the presence of rodents.

Tiny trails littered with droppings, which can become rodent expressways if they get half a chance to colonise the area, are a red flag. Even on suitable weed farming land, many growers construct chicken wire cages and even rigid metal frames in some cases to protect plants from any creatures that might take a nibble from mouse to moose.

    DESPERATE MEASURES: OCCUPIED TERRITORY

If you find yourself in the midst of a full-blown Indian rat flood, deadly force is recommended; by the way, this flood actually occurs about once every 50 years, with armies of bamboo rats literally ravaging rural areas like furry locusts.

    Caged rat

Shotgun blasts of birdshot are a brutally effective solution to a rodent infestation; buckshot is too much firepower and will leave your crop looking like the aftermath of the Manson family Christmas party.

Most of us in Europe don’t have access to firearms of any kind, let alone pistol grip pump action shotguns. Bows and arrows won’t cut it, so traps and poisons are really what it boils down to if you really want to put an end to a rodent hostile takeover of your beloved marijuana plantation.

Animal lovers are probably thoroughly enraged at this point, but we did advocate prevention before having to resort to last stand kind of action.

Sure we could have recommended non-lethal countermeasures to curb infestation, but we owe you the truth, however unpleasant. And when it comes to vermin taking residence in a cannabis garden we say kill ’em all.

Wherever you decide to cultivate your cannabis, remember forewarned is forearmed. Rats and mice infestations are best avoided altogether and by including pest control in your cannabis grow plan, you are insuring your crop against the worst that could happen.

Finally one for the animal lovers. You could always get a cat or a terrier perhaps if you’re a dog person. But the best natural 100% eco-friendly solution to guarantee rodent infestation never troubles your weed cultivation endeavours again is to get a few pet Burmese pythons and turn them loose in your grow show.

Canna-Tsu Cannabis Strain [Marijuana Strain Review]

    Medical, facts, and grow info

For decades, marijuana users gravitated towards the herb due to its THC content and its propensity to help them become as high as a kite. In the modern era, as we continue to learn more about the herb’s therapeutic effects, breeders are beginning to emphasize strains containing THC, CBD, and a multitude of other cannabinoids – not to mention terpenes!

The Canna-Tsu strain is a prime example of what can happen when you combine the effects of THC and CBD in one premium-grade strain.

While both parents are known as high-CBD strains, Canna-Tsu contains a reasonable degree of THC. It is a prevalent medicinal strain due to its apparent ability to soothe aches and pains, not to mention helping you feel better.

In this guide, we take a look at the famous Canna-Tsu strain; analyzing its effects and outlining its potential uses.

What Is the Canna-Tsu Marijuana Strain?

Canna-Tsu strain weed is a balanced hybrid. It is a cross of Sour Tsunami and Cannatonic, two highly-regarded CBD-rich strains. It isn’t often that you find a strain with balanced indica and sativa genetics, and reasonable amounts of both THC and CBD. Canna-Tsu comes from one of the best possible genetic lines and remains incredibly popular across the West Coast. It is believed that Lawrence Ringo from SOHUM Seeds bred this strain known for its mellow effects.

    Aroma

You may be a little surprised by the initial sour scent of the Canna-Tsu marijuana strain. However, the sourness isn’t that potent, and you’re more likely to feel refreshed after getting a whiff of the fragrance. If you want a stronger smell, get close to the buds as you grind them up. The mellow aroma offers a pleasant sweet pine note when all is said and done.

    Flavor

After smelling Canna-Tsu, you may expect it to have a delicious sweet taste. While it doesn’t exactly fail in this regard, you may be more aware of this strain’s earthiness, coupled with hints of citrus. As you inhale, the woody and citrus taste becomes more pronounced, and you may even get an element of spiciness.

As you exhale, expect a sweet and sour flavor with elements of pine. Overall, Canna-Tsu offers a light and smooth smoke. Whether you smoke a joint or hit a bowl, you shouldn’t succumb to coughing fits.

    Appearance

This strain has relatively small buds. Even the largest ones are seldom above popcorn-size. Canna-Tsu’s flowers are relatively dense and include shades of yellowish to light green with organic pistils. While this strain is nowhere near as potent THC-wise as many others, you will still marvel at the glistening trichomes that appear on the sugar leaves as harvest time approaches.

    Canna-Tsu Marijuana Strain Grow Info

If you find Canna-Tsu cannabis strain seeds and it is your first time growing weed, you should be heartened by the fact that this particular strain isn’t especially hard to cultivate. First and foremost, you are forgiven ‘mistakes’ because Canna-Tsu is highly resistant to the majority of common mold and mildews. Also, the plant grows short and sturdy, which means you can grow it in a small indoor space without having to ‘top’ it.

If you elect to grow Canna-Tsu outdoors, you must live in a dry Mediterranean climate. It may be resistant to mold, but excessive moisture is never good for marijuana plants. Therefore, we don’t recommend growing it outside if you live in an area that gets lots of rain.

If you grow Canna-Tsu outdoors, you can expect it to be ready for harvest by the middle of October. The yield is best described as ‘moderate’ with approximately 11 ounces of bud per plant.

You may find it a little easier to manage Canna-Tsu when it is grown indoors. As long as you keep the humidity level low and ensure the grow room is well-ventilated, you should have success whether you use soil or a hydroponics system fitted with a growing medium such as Coco Noir or Rockwool.

The usual lighting rules apply when growing Canna-Tsu indoors. During the vegetative stage, try to ensure your plants get at least 18 hours of light each day. Once you are ready to force the crop into flowering, switch the lighting schedule so that the plants get 12 hours of continuous darkness each day. Canna-Tsu’s flowering period is 9-10 weeks, and when grown indoors, it provides up to 13 ounces of bud per square meter planted.

    THC – Highest Content

Typically, Canna-Tsu cannabis has approximately 8% THC. However, we have heard reports that it has tested as high as 11%, which makes it a fairly decent option for novices.

    CBD – Highest Content

It is Canna-Tsu’s high CBD content that makes it a medical marijuana favorite. One version of the strain, tested by Analytical 360 way back in 2013, showed that this strain’s CBD content was 10.93%. When tested, Canna-Tsu also showed a high level of the terpene, linalool, of up to 3.90%! There is also more than 0.5% of beta myrcene and beta-caryophyllene.

What Can I Expect When I Use Canna-Tsu?

First and foremost, Canna-Tsu is not the right choice if your goal is to get completely stoned. The combination of low THC by modern-day standards and a high CBD content means the ‘high’ you’ll experience is of the mellow kind. Users report feeling a gentle and soothing psychoactive experience, and you may believe you are floating on a cloud of happiness.

You should feel relaxed both in body and mind. Best of all, you will not feel so stoned that you can’t perform your everyday tasks. Indeed, some users suggest that Canna-Tsu helps improve their concentration levels while also alleviating anxiety. Therefore, it is possible to use this strain at any time of the day.

HOWEVER, please note that using any marijuana strain while working is against the law. You will undoubtedly fail a workplace drug screening if you use Canna-Tsu, so bear that in mind.

    Medical Benefits of Canna-Tsu

As the Canna-Tsu strain makes you feel as if you are flying and imbues a genuine sense of joy, it is the ideal strain if you suffer from anxiety or depression. Imagine returning home from a hard day at work, only to find that all your anger and angst melts away after a few tokes.

While Canna-Tsu doesn’t provide the intense psychoactive high associated with high-THC strains, its effects are such that it could prove useful when trying to treat chronic pain, muscle spasms, seizures, headaches, and cramps. We have also heard that some individuals use Canna-Tsu to treat conditions such as paranoia and PTSD. The mellowness of the high, coupled with the fact it doesn’t cause you to endure couch-lock, means you can enjoy this strain at any time of the day.

    Possible Side Effects of Canna-Tsu

One of the potential dangers associated with potent marijuana strains is a propensity to experience paranoia or anxiety. However, as Canna-Tsu isn’t exceptionally high in THC – not to mention its high CBD content which counteracts the possible side effects of THC – you shouldn’t experience any such issues.

In general, possible side effects after using Canna-Tsu are mild and usually restricted to dry mouth and dry eyes. You can counteract these possible effects by ensuring you are well hydrated.

In sporadic cases, if the user has an extremely low tolerance, they may experience a slight headache and some dizziness. If you end up with dry and itchy eyes, go to a pharmacy and invest in some eye drops.

Final Thoughts on the Canna-Tsu Strain

Overall, there are few medicinal marijuana strains on the market as beloved as Canna-Tsu. While it contains enough THC to let you know that you’re using marijuana, it won’t provide you with an excessively intoxicating high. As such, it is the ideal strain to use at any time of day. Some users even enjoy using it as a wake and bake option!

You can try Canna-Tsu if you are hoping to potentially gain relief from conditions such as anxiety, stress, chronic pain, bipolar disorder, back pain, cramps, and fatigue. It is a relatively easy strain to grow, and you may even have success if it is the first time you have ever tried growing cannabis. The only downside is that the overall yield is moderate at best, whether you grow the strain indoors or outdoors.

    Growing Canna-Tsu

Canna-Tsu makes for a relatively simple plant to crop, primarily because it is naturally resistant to most common molds and powdery mildews. Other than its low-maintenance personality, it also isn’t picky with its growing conditions as it can adjust well within indoor or outdoor environments.

Furthermore, it grows into a moderately short height, leaning more on width and a bushy stature that is similar to a classic indica crop. As such, this hybrid can thrive well within constricted spaces. Since it grows into a rather compact form, topping it may be necessary in order for the lower nodes to take in as much light as well.

On that note, growing it indoors provides the option of hydroponic or soil growth methods, so long as the humidity levels are maintained and air ventilation is plentiful. Typically, its flowering time takes about 9 to 10 weeks before producing a yield of 400 grams per square meter.

Meanwhile, cultivating it outdoors would require a consistently temperate and Mediterranean climate. Harvest time usually falls around the middle to the end of October, just before the colder season begins to settle in. Additionally, it delivers an average yield of 300 grams per plant.

While the yields aren’t so impressive, it’s more than satisfactory considering the minimal efforts taken for it to grow to fruition.
