What Are Autoflowering Seeds?

If you’ve never grown marijuana before you are going to love autoflowering seeds! Their design means they flower automatically. There is no need to manage the amount of light these plants get! Neither do you have to spend energy removing males, as all our autoflowering seeds are feminized seeds as well.

If you are a beginner looking to break into growing who worries they can’t keep a plant alive – this is for you! Autoflowering seeds grow in the worst conditions from open ground to a window ledge.

So, why are these seeds so robust?

Simple. They evolved from northern Eurasia and mixed with the Cannabis Ruderalis plant type. Ruderalis type strains come from central Russia where waiting for light and warm weather wasn’t an option. Unlike Sativa and Indica, they flower on their own schedule – regardless of the light cycle.

Nowadays you will find all sorts of highly regarded Sativa and Indica strains that have been mixed with Ruderalis traits. This makes them a lot easier to grow and very appealing for a lot of growers.

Why Use Autoflowering Seeds?

If you want to get the most from your grow, these are for you. Autoflowering seeds can, on average, produce two crops in a typical summer – and sometimes more. If you want to grow indoors, you can go from germination to maturity in as few as ten weeks. This way you can enjoy more harvests in less time with minimal work from a plant that just loves growing.

The seeds are also very resistant to frost, mold, and pests. That’s why we refer to autoflowering seeds as the ‘go-to beginner option’!

What Yield Can You Expect With Your Autoflowering Seeds?

Good question! Be sure to give your seeds the best conditions you can to grow. Remember, a small pot on a window ledge has smaller space for the root system and less light. A bigger pot with better light would yield more. How you grow defines your yield. That’s the beauty to autoflowering seeds. With them, you can grow in any situation – even with zero previous grow experience!

While every grow is different, the main things that increase yield are light and nutrients. The more intense the light, the bigger and stronger the plant. Optimized nutrients will make your plants healthy and flourish.

Usually when grown right, autoflowers yield around 4 to 7oz.

How Much Light Autoflowering Seeds Need

One thing people love about autoflowering seeds is that they don’t have to bother with grow tents, keeping their plants in the dark, or other forms of light management. With traditional strains, you need to monitor your light situation closely. Autoflowering seeds don’t require light cycle management to go into flowering, because of this you don’t have to worry about alternating light on a schedule.

Being a plant, autoflowering plants still require as much light as possible to grow as big as they possibly can. But instead of having to worry about light pollution you can simply focus on the fun parts of growing. This is why they are a great option for growers just starting out!

How To Best Grow Autoflowering Seeds

Autoflowering seeds are resilient and are used to growing in challenging environments. With that said, the better conditions you can create, the bigger your yield. Here are a few things you can do to make your autoflower thrive.

First, consider the temperature. Autoflowering plants like the temperature to run between 75-86 degrees Fahrenheit. The closer you get to 86 degrees, the faster it grows – on average. Warm air kept dry will also reduce mold.

If you grow indoors, this won’t be an issue. You also get the added benefit of being able to drop the temperature at night without impacting the plant or harming the yield. All you have to do is give the plant light, water, and keep the temperature right and you’ll have a great grow cycle! Once you get bud you then process it in the way you like.

White Widow Autoflower Seeds

If you do some coffee shop hopping in Amsterdam, the chances are good that you’ll see White Widow in most of them. White Widow is an Indica hybrid, stemming back to the 1990s. It gives users a cerebral high and a smooth feeling of relaxation. In short, it’s highly enjoyable and very popular.

Plant type 60% Indica 40% Sativa
THC Up to 19%
Difficulty Easy

Yields 4 to 6 oz per 3x3ft
Taste & Smell Earthy | Herbal | Pungent | Spicy | Sweet | Woody

People love White Widow because it simply gets them high. It has higher than average THC levels but doesn’t lead to the couch-lock feeling that is less beloved. Side effects are mild, although also quite rare altogether.

White Widow Autoflower is also a favorite strain to grow, especially for people looking for a smaller plant. This can be quite advantageous, especially for people who are seeking to keep their growing operation under the radar. Better yet, it’s an excellent plant for beginners to grow, as it is not too finicky about climate or other environmental elements.

This review is based on the feminized strain, attributes can slightly differ for autoflowers.

White Widow Autoflower Origins

The White Widow autoflower strain comes from the work of Green House Seeds, which is largely responsible for breeding it in the 1990s. It is a hybrid, although it is technically an Indica dominant plant (roughly 40% Sativa, 60% Indica). Its two main parents are the South Indian Indica (which has tons of resin) as well as the Brazilian Sativa landrace. The result is a plant with buds that are covered in crystallized resin and quite potent.

The plant itself was bred in the Netherlands first. It has also become the parent plant of many other favorite strains, including White Russian, Blue Widow, and White Rhino. Nonetheless, the popularity of the original White Widow prevails as a classic.

What is the White Widow Autoflower?

Once upon a time we only knew cannabis indica and cannabis sativa plants. These are seasonal plants that start growing in Spring and are ready to be harvested when days turn shorter – so towards Fall.

Indoor growers learned to imitate nature by manipulating this light cycle.

In the early ’80s a third species, Ruderalis, was brought to Amsterdam. This plant is a cannabis relative that was discovered in Siberia. Breeders found that this Ruderalis plant would flower after just a few weeks, regardless of light differences. These ruderalis genes were combined with existing indica and sativa strains and the autoflower type was born.

Nowadays you can find autoflowering variants of all sorts of popular strains. They grow smaller plants but they’re easier to grow and you can harvest much sooner than with photosensitive plants. Great for new growers, growing in a small space or if you want multiple harvests per season!

Growing White Widow Autoflower Seeds

It’s important to remember that this is an autoflower strain, rather than a “normal” strain of marijuana. The term “autoflowering” refers to the fact that this particular strain of marijuana is not photosensitive. While other, “normal” strains of marijuana start transitioning into their flowering phase with changes in the amount of sunlight and the amount of uninterrupted darkness, autoflowering strains instead follow their own “internal clock.” They simply reach the flowering phase at a certain point, regardless of what the sun is doing.

This can be highly beneficial for many growers, especially outdoor growers that are interested in harvesting twice during a single grow season. Because they don’t need to wait for the hours of sunlight to drop below a certain threshold, they can harvest their first set of plants in the middle of summer, when the sun is at its peak.

We advise also reading our germination instructions for guaranteed results.

Preferred Climate

The White Widow Autoflowering strain of marijuana can be grown in just about any setup, but an indoor one with more control is often recommended. It does well against diseases, and it thrives in heat and sunny conditions, but it can also do quite well in cooler climates.

White Widow consistently makes the list of best strains for beginners to try growing. This is due in large part to how easy these plants are to grow, but the fact that the high is an overall popular feeling also does not hurt. The plant can withstand a variety of different environments, as well as environmental changes. The hardiness of the plant also helps lead to consistently high yields, making it ideal for beginners (as well as for just about anyone).

Experiencing The White Widow Strain

By and large, the effects of the White Widow include relaxation and happiness. Couch-lock does not occur when you smoke this strain, which is one big reason why it is so desirable. Instead, smokers feel the gentle bliss and uplifting energy of a social high. It is mostly a head-based, cerebral high, and has light bodily effects too. It is potent and enjoyable for just about anybody.

The positive effects of the White Widow Autoflower include:

The negative effects, though extremely rare, could include:

White Widow Smell & Taste

White Widow is a strain that many of your senses will enjoy. It even looks delectable, given the white crystals that naturally cover the buds (giving this strain its name). This is reflected in its smell, which is quite pungent, earthy, and spicy.

It also has an earthy taste to it, but it has a sugary and sweet smoke and after-taste (reflecting the sugar-like crystals on the bud). Pine and wood are also able to be tasted, making for a very pleasant combination.

Uses For White Widow

For that reason, it is highly recommended for everyday use to combat stresses that are experienced on a daily basis.
